Oshawa Skating Club

A history of Success and a Future of Excellence

History of Success

The Oshawa Skating Club has launched the competitive careers of two Olympic Athletes and World Champions, several International competitors and abundant Jr and Sr National Competitors. Most importantly, members of the Oshawa Skating Club have succeeded in educational, professional and honoured recognition outside the sport of Figure Skating. Past OSC members have gone on to be successful in life as Medical Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers, Masters of Journalism, Broadcasters and Nurses among many other professions. The Oshawa Skating Club prides itself on its HISTORY OF SUCCESS!

Don was born in 1940 in Oshawa, Ontario. Jackson began skating at the Oshawa Skating Club winning his first competition and passing his 1st figure. Don was a four time Canadian Men’s Figure Skating Champion and won the Bronze Medal in the 1960 Olympic Games.

Don was crowned World Champion, representing the Oshawa Skating Club in 1962 in Prague Czechlosvakia, by having a record breaking skate. Don landed the first triple lutz in competition receiving 7 perfect scores.

Don became a member of the Order of Canada in 1997 for his Lifetime Achievement. Don has also been inducted in the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame and the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.

After Don’s amateur career ended, Don skated professionally with the Ice Follies and co-founded Jackson Skates along with his brother Bill. Jackson Skates have become one of the most popular brand of ice skates in the world.

As a founding director of the Minto Skating Club, Don retired from Minto in 2010 and returned to the Oshawa Skating Club. Oshawa is pleased to have Don and his wife Barbara back at the Oshawa Skating Club. Our members look forward to our FUTURE OF EXCELLENCE!

Future of Excellence

The Oshawa Skating Club offers programming for skaters learning to skate to National Qualifying Competitors.

It has been the mandate of the Oshawa Skating Club to adapt Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development protocol.

Celebrating our History...

The Oshawa Skating Club is proud to be celebrating 80 years of success in Oshawa and is looking forward to many more.  We are working on collecting pictures from our past and current skaters, showing successes of different types - winning a medal, a personal best skate, or participating in an ice show.  We are very proud of our history of success but we are also proud of our skaters that will be (and are) involved in our future of excellence. Sadly, when the Oshawa Skating Club was required to leave from our previous home rink at North Oshawa, we were forced to leave a good portion of our history there.  We are asking current and past members to forward us pictures, programs and stories to help us re-build our history to show our present skaters how amazing our club really is!
